August 3, 2009 Stephen Lock Just viewed the pics of Fort PoW posted by Ross Campbell. By way of explanation the one church is being re-done as a private residence, which I think is tres cool. Glad to see at least some of the old sites are being put to decent use instead of being allowed to go derelict. July 24, 2009 Michael Shouldice Great site and nice to look at these old pictures. May 15, 2009 Peggy Bram Wow, what a treat to find this site. It brought back a flood of childhood memories. My Dad was with the 8th Canadian Hussars, Mom worked at the Maple Leaf (Canex). I was one of the kids who had polio during my stay in Germany. I remember soaping the school windows on Halloween (my brother Richard Parry)turned us in. Loved the school dances. We were transferred to Petawawa in December 1962 where I remained until I married and moved on in 68. I've returned to Germany several times the last move in 1989 when we were transferred to Baden. I love Germany so much that we are considering retiring in the Rhine Valley. We are presently in Victoria, BC where we've been for over 20 years.Wow, what a treat to find this site. April 21, 2009 Douglas Sprott April 15, 2009 Steven(Powers) Blair April 14, 2009 Gerry Dyck Great site, lots of memories came flooding back, lots of super pics. April 9, 2009 George Paul Millaire I guess living in Werl, Germany as a military brat had to be one of my greatest experiences which I can remember to-date. The second best experience was living there the second time for six years with the Royal Canadian Air Force (1973-1979). I had managed to learn the language during my first time there and this was to my advantage while living there as a civilian and second, as a serviceman. I was transferred to the Europahof Hotel as management and knowing three languages was a pre-requisite. Travelled to every country imaginable less the communist ones because of my security clearance within the military. I have managed to travel back there several times after being posted back to Canada and who knows, I might just return one more time. Auf Wiedersehen bis nextes mal. April 8, 2009 Richard (Dickie) Buxton Thanks for putting this together - I know that it takes a lot of time and dedication. After all once a brat always a brat. Seeing the old school - can still picture the days of "double Dutch skipping" on the stairs and the good old hill hang out. Does anyone remember the 2 hills we named "bear hill and kite hill" in Hemer. I won't forget being a brat living next to the local German Hospital in Hemer... seems we always raided the luscious gardens next door to it March 11, 2009 Colleen Devlin Looking forward to seeing everyone at the COBRA IV - Canadian Overseas Brat Reunion Assn, reunion in Kingston, Ontario on the August long weekend 2009. Prost Colleen March 11, 2009 George Paul Carscadden Great site, if you go on any of the RCA or RCHA sites there is no mention of the SSM Bty's. Very strange, I Emailed these sites and never had any reply..I have pictures and a full 1 SSM Bty Picture taken in 1964. Keep up the good work George Carscadden March 6, 2009 Rick Volpel I was borne in 1958 so my memories of those early years in Germany are a little sketchy. I do remember Grade 1, 2 and 3 in Fort Macleod. My older brother Terry and sister Sandy went to the school located down the across what I thought was the mainstreet in Hemer: Across from the parking lot where the buses picked up us 'little kids'. I remember making about 25 marks washing cars in the MLS parking lot on Saturdays and the Felsenmeer (sp??) rock formations. And of course Paul Boon's (again spelling is questionable) where a 7 year old could buy firecrackers and stinkbombs! March 6, 2009 Bob Lewis it was great to see the photo's of the fort. remember the Ranch House?@ma cross's good times there eh? beer flowed smooth in those days and it was great to share it with good friends .if there are any out there that want to share some tall stories, Email me I would like to find out what happened to RSM stone "duke" he was quite a man or as he would say GOD hope to here soon from a friend March 3, 2009 Bob Lewis I just logged on awhile ago looking for Kurt Kurtswhinhert I hope that's the right spelling .you'll know who I mean thanks March 3, 2009 Carolyn MacKinnon Loved looking at the pics, not sure if I liked the 'newer' ones lol preferred the older pics of Hemer and area as I remembered it 🙂 March 2, 2009 Al Fields Hi any old comrades from this period, I was in B sqn. 8ch, this site brings back many old memories. I was the Hemer High School Secretary for 1968 & 69. Recognize all the teachers and remember many of the students. February 25, 2009 Douglas Stuart My mother forwarded this website to me (it was sent to her by a friend). Thanks for putting this together. Had a great time looking at the photos. Have many memories of living in Hemer...catching the school bus each day (they lined up along the street every morning), shopping with Mom at the MLS, running across the street to the "Spar" (the grocer sold the best licorice whips) and even trying to sneak in to Little Canada (only to be kicked out). We lived across the hall from the Adair family (Willy, Ward and Patti were the kids, and they were the same ages as myself and my siblings). Thank you again. February 25, 2009
