Red Grossinger Good site, informative, BUT some of the dates are wrong, for example, two photos shows the Freedom of the City parade, Iserlohn, being dated to 1970, that occurred in 1964 or 65, with the FGH (check the badges). I was there. LdSH were there in 70, I was there too but do not remember such parade. Keep up the good work. Red May 12, 2006

Gary Logan Served 17 years + in Germany. Met my wife at BMH Iserlohn. We have been married 43 years this September. We have two daughters and four granddaughters. Our eldest daughter married her German boyfriend and she lives in Schuttern. They run a "Gartnerei" (gardening business)....across from the Church in Schuttern. We now live in Kingston, Ontario. The best fresh water sailing in the world!!! We love to sail and enjoy our retirement. We visit Germany at least once a year. Lahr is still a very vibrant town... the Airfield has many new businesses. The Caserne is another matter...it looks derelict...weeds are growing up through the tarmac...the windows of the Canex offices are broken...the whole place is a mess. Looking forward to hearing from anyone who knew me!!! Gary. May 8, 2006
Serge Grenier Great site, keep up the good work. May 8, 2006
Alex Gillis Thanks for creating and running this site... it brought back some great memories. Unfortunately, we lost all of our memorabilia in a warehouse fire in 1974, so your site is particularly welcome. Nancy Cook My years in Soest were the best, I still have very strong memories of my school days, sports I played (volleyball and basketball) and of the lovely trips we took when Dad got leave. I would like to say hi to Chris Kippan (nee O'Donnell) and her dad, Doug O' Donnell (in B.C.). Doug, also in the RCOC, served with my dad, Brian Brady at Fort Chambly. Chris and I never lost contact and her friendship is one that I value highly as the years have passed. Talk to you on the net soon Chris, Nancy May 3, 2006
H. H. (Ike) Euteneier Greetings All! I think I am one of the luckiest members of the Canadian Forces, having been able to serve a total of 14 years in Europe. I spoke the language, therefore I was a commodity sought after. I am now retired in the Comox Valley in BC. Cheers April 24, 2006

Trueman Sanford Hi again everyone. I could use some help. I'm trying to locate Carol McDonald or MacDonald who lived and went to school in 1962-64. She had a brother Andy. Thanks April 18, 2006
Brian Gauci It's been a few months since I checked out this site and after another look, here's a few of my impressions as a 6 year old kid. It didn't take long after arriving for me to start checking things out. Castles on hills, houses that looked like you could eat them, little red trains zipping around, buses with trailers, gliders silently whipping through the sky, hot air balloons of all shapes and sizes including zeppelins suddenly appearing in the sky looking like they'll be there forever and before you know it they're gone, a forest next door with plush meadows and water shooting out of the ground. For a kid from rural Manitoba this place was a positive fairyland. There was a candy machine on the wall of a building down the hill on Zeppelinstrasse, open 24 hours and better candy than I'd ever had before, well...except for that awful salt licorice, man that stuff was gross. I soon met friends and started doing stuff, before discovering the shortcut through the Felsemeer we'd hang around the corner of Zeppelinstrasse and Berlinerstrasse. Eventually an army truck would come along and stop at the stop sign, that's when we'd all jump in the back and swipe a ride out to the camp to go to the movies. Usually that's where they were going but after a couple of my buddys ended up in Iserlohn one day we discovered the Felsemeer, there was two or three ways through there and I knew them all pretty good after a while. I had a scooter and used to trip around all over the place. I also remember roller skating down the hill on Memelerstrasse and scooting down Zepplenstrasse in a street cart I bought off Paul Ferris. I'd take my dog for walks in the woods, there's a pic on the sight somewhere of the crossroads leading into the woods and we'd go to the first valley and I'd let her run around, one time when my Dad came with us he wanted to go up the winding road but half way up the pooch discovered the farm by the road and was soon doing it's K9 duty of chasing chickens, 3 hours later with my Dad's wallet a lot lighter our walk was over. In one of the overhead shots on the site I see ther's a building on Memelerstrasse that wasn't there when I lived there, that was the field where we'd fire off our water rockets. Once a year the fair would come and set up on a hill on the other side of Hemer, if you looked straight down Memelerstrasse you could see it in the distance, when you saw them setting up you'd block that couple of weeks off on your kid's calender "THE CIRCUS IS IN TOWN!!!!) Now that I've taken up a good part of the page in the guestbook, I'll say goodnight. April 16, 2006

In fact some of the same people live and work in the same area here. I'm going to have fun with this site come Monday. Oh to be young for those few moments. Thanks again. March 23, 2006
Robert Burns It is with great sadness that I see the state of Fort St Louis in its ruin and I remember the days of its shiny, proud state under the rule of Canada's Black Watch. I often thought that it was ironic that in the years following the move south to Lahr that our parent Regiment The Black Watch (RHR) were housed in Fort St Louis but renamed by the British Army after a battle honour from the Iberian Pennisular War with Napoleon. I guess it is true that must not return because it is never the same. Nemo Me Impune Lacessit. Bob Burns. March 22, 2006
Howard C. (Howie) Pierce Arrived in Germany at 18 years of age in 1957 green as they come right out of the Ottawa Valley. Departed in 1971 as one of the last to close out 4 CMBG, in fact Tom Murchison BGen Gardner and Howie Pierce pulled the flag down for the last time. A tear rolled down my face thinking of all those years and the memories. If Canadians only knew how many of her lads grew up in this place we called home for so long. Yes some of my buddies didn't make it back home, but I can still see them for they never grow old. I can recall a New Years night standing guard at a TDM dump, guarding ammo in the rain and thinking to myself what to Hell am I doing here. I must have liked it because I kept coming back. March 21, 2006
