It's been a few months since I checked out this site and after another look, here's a few of my impressions as a 6 year old kid. It didn't take long after arriving for me to start checking things out. Castles on hills, houses that looked like you could eat them, little red trains zipping around, buses with trailers, gliders silently whipping through the sky, hot air balloons of all shapes and sizes including zeppelins suddenly appearing in the sky looking like they'll be there forever and before you know it they're gone, a forest next door with plush meadows and water shooting out of the ground. For a kid from rural Manitoba this place was a positive fairyland. There was a candy machine on the wall of a building down the hill on Zeppelinstrasse, open 24 hours and better candy than I'd ever had before, well...except for that awful salt licorice, man that stuff was gross. I soon met friends and started doing stuff, before discovering the shortcut through the Felsemeer we'd hang around the corner of Zeppelinstrasse and Berlinerstrasse. Eventually an army truck would come along and stop at the stop sign, that's when we'd all jump in the back and swipe a ride out to the camp to go to the movies. Usually that's where they were going but after a couple of my buddys ended up in Iserlohn one day we discovered the Felsemeer, there was two or three ways through there and I knew them all pretty good after a while. I had a scooter and used to trip around all over the place. I also remember roller skating down the hill on Memelerstrasse and scooting down Zepplenstrasse in a street cart I bought off Paul Ferris. I'd take my dog for walks in the woods, there's a pic on the sight somewhere of the crossroads leading into the woods and we'd go to the first valley and I'd let her run around, one time when my Dad came with us he wanted to go up the winding road but half way up the pooch discovered the farm by the road and was soon doing it's K9 duty of chasing chickens, 3 hours later with my Dad's wallet a lot lighter our walk was over. In one of the overhead shots on the site I see ther's a building on Memelerstrasse that wasn't there when I lived there, that was the field where we'd fire off our water rockets. Once a year the fair would come and set up on a hill on the other side of Hemer, if you looked straight down Memelerstrasse you could see it in the distance, when you saw them setting up you'd block that couple of weeks off on your kid's calender "THE CIRCUS IS IN TOWN!!!!) Now that I've taken up a good part of the page in the guestbook, I'll say goodnight.
