John Connacher February 21, 2006 Donnie (Cappy) Cappler Greeting to all my friends I served with during these years...I played a little hockey while serving...goal tender for the "Huskies" of the north, still the best team to come out of Germany....I am a bit biased...I revisited the area in 2003 when my wife June and I packed packed around 18 countries in Europe...things were different for sure...visited the bars and hangouts of Soest, Dortmund, Werl, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and a ton more..I might add June was not overly impressed with where we as young soldiers spent our time....did a photo shoot of Fort Chambly and of course the "arena" "HOME OF THE HUSKIES" brought back some very fond memories...despite the fact I did more than 220 day on "confinement to barracks while in Chambly...to all who remember the "GOOD OLD DAYS"....Take Care...Go Huskies Go...God Bless... Thanks for your web site, brought back nice memories February 21, 2006 Albert (Ab) (Abe) Holler Hi: It was nice to see some old pictures of Fort Qupelle. Those were the days. I remember being at Go-Cart races on that parade Square the day my oldest son was born. Oct 4 1969, Of course in the BMH Hospital nearby. I named my son Tony after a good friend of mine Tony Holden I think we had a few beers together. I currently live in Edmonton Alberta you are welcome to drop by for a visit if you are in the area. I would like to meet anybody from those days. February 19, 2006 Patsy Seal What a wonderful site! Brings back so many memories seeing photos and names of people I knew or recognized. I now live in England have done for many years. Retired with grandchildren. I'm still in touch with several friends made in Soest, and even with an old German boyfriend Harald, who moved to Canada in 1960/61. I do plan on a visit to Soest it wouldn't be a long journey for me at all. I live in Dover and the ferries sail every day to Belgium and France. Of course a plane would be much quicker! The Soest Tourism Office offer some very reasonable long weekend packages. I send my regards to you all. Cheers! February 19, 2006 Ed Mandrake Dave: I am embarrassed that only so few members are contributing to this website. May I suggest that every month you ask for donations. No four people should be charged financially for this site. If we use it we should have the courtesy to send in $25.00 to $50.00. Dave please remove my previous two entries. January 11, 2006 Mike Podrouzek January 10, 2006 Catherine Bryant My Dad was in the Black Watch. We did not live in the PMQ's we were on Economy as they called it then. My first day at school an army truck pick me up at my home. Drove to school then forgot to pick me up after school. So I remember going over to the MP shack to tell them I was lost. I just opened my bookbag with my address on it. Couldn't say those words for the life of me(at that time)So They drove me home in a MP jeep. Got to our village and past my Mom running up and down the street franticly looking for me. Remember, we couldn't speak the language, we had no phones, no car(at the time)Dad wasn't home she was all alone. I remember telling them" there's my Mom"!! but they wouldn't stop. See saw me cause I was waving and yelling at her. She finally ended up at the house. All out of breath. I remember her yelling at the guys, "why didn't you STOP" "Sorry we had to deliver her straight to her home." I'm in the picture on your introduction page after you hit the Werl school button. When I got in and was looking around I said gee that girl in the front row looks familiar not noticing myself until I realized it was my class picture. Had such a great childhood in Germany. This has brought back lots of wonderful memories. Thanks. I still write to the family whom we rented from in Wickede. We did alot of travelling while in Germany and also after. We visited the Strieder Family many time and stayed in our old apartment on a couple of our trips back. It was our BEST posting. Now a family by the name of Scott moved into Wickede 2 doors up from us. They rented from the Coal-man who had a long haired daushound dog called Dixie. If you read this letter Kathy please write. Anyone else from the picture please write can't name you all a in this letter but do remember some of your names. Who sent in the class picture? Thanks!! As Always Cathy January 9, 2006 Hans (Aussie) Oesinghaus January 9, 2006 Gord MaGee Just browsing and saying, "hello", and best wishes to those who may remember me. Viewing the photo album sure brought back some nice memories. January 9, 2006 Brian Gauci I don't know if it's cool to send more than one message to this book but I've been very excited about finding this website, I was six years old when I got to Germany and a kid's take on the whole thing is quite different. I think it would be great if some people would share their adventures, I know as a kid, I have a few tales to tell. I may be able to dig up a couple of old photos too. Thanks Alan Basaraba for your pictures, there's a shot of the building I lived in. Paul Ferris' apartment is in that shot too. Did anybody else ever fire off water rockets behind the MLS? January 6, 2006 Brian Gauci I lived in Hemer from 1957 to 1960 at 58 Zepplinstrasse. I attended grades 1-3 at Hemer School.(age 7-9 My Dad was in the R.C.H.A. I vaguely remember some of my friends while there. Danny Woodbury, Kenneth? Ernie? Robbie Payne. Sharon, the girl that always stole my scooter, Paul Ferris My mother ran the teenage dances at the school on Friday nights. I was attacked by some of the German kids from the orphanage on my way there to scrounge some chocolate bars one night and was saved by my German Shepherd. I have many fond memories of Germany, I especially liked the area between the town and the base near the glider strip with all the caves and holes in the ground, my friends and I were always finding WW2 stuff there. In 59 me and another guy (Patrick I think) landed in jail in the German part of town for doing something stupid and caused major grief for our parents and the MP's.
