While I don't wish to suggest we Canadians swoop in and "take it over", it might be of interest to many of you that the BAOR site's webmaster has very generously now included a history of the various Canadian forts. Memories came flooding back as I saw the old photos. Well done to those people who put it together. After Hemer we went to Camp Borden then to Vancouver where my Day retired. After lots of years travelling around I met and married an Australian and have lived in Queensland since 1979. We have 2 kids Jay 20 and Kara 17. I still think of the happy times spent there and the little town of Soest where we walked along the wall around the city, went to the swimming pool in town and visited lots and lots of castles. One of my best friends there was Carolyn Webb... her father was an Anglican minister and we had good times. My sister Wanda and I plan to re-visit Soest in 2010 as a retirement gift to myself. Worked at Radio CAE during my latter years in Fort Victoria. My dad was with The Royal Canadian Engineers stationed at Fort Victoria, Werl. Both my sisters Helen and Johann attended Junior High School in Werl and eventually my sister Johann attended Soest Senior High after my time there. Great memories over there playing in a German Rock n' Roll Band, motorbiking across countryside and taking the opportunity to learn the German language. I eventually went back to Lahr, Germany (1973-1979) to manage the Europahof Hotel for The Canadian Armed Forces located in Schwarzwald Deutschland (Blackforest Germany). They are Lillian Brodie, Ronnie and Anthony Antaya, Elise Osside and a boy in my class named Bill Debellfielle. Great memories from Germany, playing war with weeping willow whips, garbage can lids and sneaking over to the Belguik side. I now live in Alliston, Ontario, married 32 years, mother of 3 girls and grandmother of 2 and another on the way. Would like to hear from anyone who may remember me. Counted over 35,000 Klm travelling in our car, not counting flights to England, Turkey, Rome etc. Drove through Spain, Greece and all points in between, including a week travelling through Yugoslavia.
