I was just mentioning to a correspondent (a former Werl guy) that, even still, what brings back the feeling of Christmas for me is remembering all the church bells in Soest pealing, filling the air downtown with the sound of bells, the snow falling softly and blanketing the old inner city so that it looked like a fairy tale town, attending the Weihnachten Fair and smell of chestnuts and sweets in the air, and of going down to the square by the Petri Kirche (the Lutheran church across from the Cathedral) Christmas Eve to watch and listen as the church choir made their way down from the top of the onion spire, holding candles, and singing In Excelsis Gloria as the snow gently wafted down. Now THAT was Christmas!! Merry Christmas everyone, Frohliche Weihnacht, und Grusse fuer die Neue Jahr!!
