Thanks for the revival of some pleasant memories. Most of all my photos were lost over the years. I have one of a group in the restaurant by the school, and a group of girls outside the SallyAnn. I worked after school on a beer/softdrink delivery truck. (Bad Sassendorf Brewery) also Dortmunder Union for a while People put their picture of a dog logo in their window, and we came up, and took their order. Also worked in MLS Store for a brief Time. regards, Larry Perkins
I would like to be put on an Email list if there are any up-coming reunions. I just got a hold of this site after the deadline for the reunion. I am presently living in Calgary, AB. I am still in contact with Michele Pouliot, who also taught in Hemer from 1964-1967.
It's always a thrill to check out this site...since last year I've connected with a lot of old friends from Hemer and looking forward to actually seeing some of them. Would love to hear from Randy LeFebvre...if you're out there Randy.
This site and the Baden site bring back a lot of memories. Just returned from a small get together with a few folks from the late Sixties and early Seventies period. We had a great time and it seemed as if we had just parted ways yesterday. Drank lots of beer and swapped lots of tales. Kudos to all of you who make these sites happen. I appreciate all the work you do towards the upkeep and maintenance of them.
What a surprise to see all of the faces around the time that I was in Hemer. I have seen a lot of faces that I would like to make contact with: Linda Crowder, Sally Butt, Yvonne Gilbert, Wayne Leckie, Wendy & her brother Larry Dawe, Mary's Garneau (I know the spelling if incorrect). I have been to Canada on a number of occasions and loved it so much I bought some land next to Cliff and Joan Mackay's place out near Picton, not far from the RCAF Base at Trenton. Anyway, enough "prattling on", anyone who remembers me, please Email me. I have a lot of photo's which I will put up on this site.......bye for now Paul Jones (Hampshire England) Tel: 44 (0) 1329 517517
Having written a book The Men Who Breached The Dams in 1982 the story of the attack on the Ruhr dams I enjoyed very much seeing the pictures again of the Eder dam.
I'm interested in connecting with others who were in Hemer. We lived on Berlinerstrasse for a year, then moved to Breddestrasse. I would also like to hear from anyone who crossed the ocean on the Homeric. Thank you for so much work on this website!
I'm looking for a childhood friend by the name of Janet Pennyfold. She had an older brother Leonard and an older sister Linda. Her father was in the military and posted in Werl also. We chummed together in Oromocto also but they got posted elsewhere in the early to mid 60's. My e-mail address is Any and all help to locate my friend would be greatly appreciated!!
Hi, Everyone! I hope you are all well and making the best of life. It's been a while since I checked in and I just wanted to let you know that all is well with the McTaggart family. Both Mom & Dad are good as are Mike & I. The family has grown with the addition of 3 babies over the last 3 years. I still keep in close contact with Chris Phenghannsl, Dave Fidler, Julee Fidler, & Carolyn Stone. Unfortunately, our group suffered a devastating loss this Spring with the passing of Debbie Little. If we ever find a cure for Cancer, it sure won't be soon enough for me!
Thanx to Grant Clarke who was our neighbour, we had a wonderful place to live as we started our married life. We "tramped" our way around Europe with a tent and our Fiat 850 sports coupe and Kharmann convertible. Increment C was the group that was left behind on bugouts as we were the ones who were to destroy the base and remaining equipment if the real thing happened. Met a lot of good soldiers and good men on that tour(66-68). This is a great site.
My yearbooks have molded in my mother's basement so I really enjoyed seeing these old photos again. I can't believe I still remembered all the names of my classmates and many teachers even though we only knew each other for one or two years. Often wondered what happened to them. I returned to Edmonton where I went to U of A and earned a Master's degree in Zoology. Have been a School Board Trustee in Richmond BC for 16 years, married and have three children.
I will be visiting Soest, Germany this fall and have a German friend who will be taking me to Soest, but I don't know the address and both of my parents have paed away. I would really appreciate it if someone can give me the address of the army base. Thank you Suzan Kendall
Many Happy Memories from our time in Werl and Lahr. No regrets at all , glad I found this link thanks to Les Stiles. We had our Retired Sappers Reunion last weekend, lots of fun.....Cheers Darrell 29 May 06
From 1959 to 1962 my father was CSM Charlie Gibert of 1TPT COY in Fort Chambly. We lived in Soest. From 1966 to 1970 I was a sapper in 4 Field Sqn RCE in Fort Victoria. In Lahr I served in 4 Combat Engineer Regt. The years I spent in Europe wrer great.
I was an army brat for all my youth, then joined the RCEs as an Apprentice in 1956. After training in Chilliwack until 58 I was posted to Gagetown until I resigned in Aug 1960. My father was Sgt Earl Desjardins RCASC who retired in Ottawa in the 60s. I'm presently living in Burnaby B.C.
Bill I had tried to e mail you some ago, no response. Please advise us as to your whereabouts. Your wife and my Wife arrived in Germany at the same time. Sure would be nice to contact an old friend.
I come back often checking for new updates and noticed I had listed the wrong unit in Hemer. It was 1 RCHA, not 4 RCHA as probably most of you knew. Would like to hear from Mike Juneau, or any of the other crew members from the AOP.
This site definitely brings back memories. Thanks to whoever has put it together. I attended Soest Sr grades 7, 8 & 9 from 1958-1961 and would love to hear from anyone who was there at that time. My husband & I are now retired and live in Qualicum Beach, B.C.
Was joy to see this site, found it through Shilobrats, I was surprised to see your history does not start back in 1954. I believe that was when the first rotation for my father started. Actually he was there in 1953 and family a year later. We came from Calgary Alta. and travelled by train and ocean liner, took us almost two weeks to get there. What a trip and what a surprise when we got there NO PMQs no School, so we lived on a farm for almost 5 months and went to school on the army base in Hemer. Finally housing was available and the school was finished. Brings back some great memories for me I was 9 years old at the time. Thank you Tom Powell
